Goemon5: The Music

Album: Way to Go

Free Bird

This song was a last-minute addition to my first album. The title is not accidental. That whole song is a clever wash-up of popular song lyrics from the 70s. Just a shame that I can't play it in public much, because I wrote it for slide guitar, which I rarely carry with me. At least it sounds nice on the album, thanks in part to the Stella guitar from the 1950s, and part through the efforts of my blues harmonica player James Hutniak.

The Sultans of Swing are jamming no more,
but I keep your photograph.
You are already gone from Funky Town,
Oh, Cecilia, my love.
Now I am free - a free bird.
I am free - a free bird.

You were my Queen on cocaine, and I miss that time,
now you're the bat out of hell.
The music is over, but I'm staying alive,
I've learned my lesson well.
I am free - a free bird.
I am free - a free bird.

I am a rolling stone, who are you?
Another brick in the wall!
I am a supertramp on the stairwell to heaven,
'cause that's the way of the world.
I am free - a free bird.
I am free - a free bird.
